The machining is precise resulting in absolutely square edge sharpening. It is super smooth in operation. The reference points ensure the blade or chisel you are sharpening is flat on the stone and square to the rolling bearing. The bearing is 15mm wide to allow weight shifting when honing and hence blade rounding when required but not too narrow to cause unnecessary grooving of the sharpening stone.

The tool accommodates all plane blade widths and bevel-edged bench chisel widths.

We use only marine grade stainless steel for the threaded rods & bearing to limit the damage the water / grit environment it is exposed to can cause. A sintered bronze bush is used inside the stainless bearing to allow smooth operation and resistance to corrosion.
The upper jaws that accept plane blades are ‘dovetailed’ to ensure the blade is pushed down flat and square. Maximum blade width on the top jaws is 70mm, narrowest 32mm. The lower chisel jaws are the same in reverse, that is, on clamping, the small plane blade or chisel is pushed up flat against the jig to keep it straight and square. The lower chisel jaws have a maximum width of 45mm, narrowest 8mm. We also have a 'middle' clamping position to accommodate thin bench chisels 12mm (1/2"+) to 6mm (1/4"). The tool accommodates all plane blade widths and bevel-edged bench chisel widths. Some mortise chisels can also be held in the honing guide between the flat sections of the jaws. Clearances allow sharpening from 20° up to 50°. The knurled brass knob is wide giving excellent finger purchase with a screwdriver slot to be used if required.

The hand cast process does allow for some casting residual imperfections, it doesn't affect at all the performance or life of the tool, part of the tool's character.

The tool is solid weighing 340 grams (12 oz).

We have always been a great supporter of the simplicity and efficiency of the Eclipse jig, our aim is to make blade sharpening very simple and very successful for the woodworker.

We have an Angle Setting Guide here for use with our honing guide.

Made in Adelaide.

Product Video

HET Sharpening Instructions

Australian Wood Review Tool Review
Combine the Henry Eckert Honing Guide & Angle Setting Jig to get your woodwork plane blades & chisels super sharp. Shapton Ceramic Whetstones make the perfect partner.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0994/6051/4071/files/4073313a-Angle-Setting-Jig-scaled-1.jpg?v=1774903730
henry-eckert-angle-setting-jig
Henry Eckert Angle Setting Jig
The Henry Eckert Angle Setting Jig is made by CNC router from long lasting HDPE.

It is designed to exclusively partner the Henry Eckert Honing Guide. There are 11 setting angles from 20° to 50° for both plane blades and chisels. The steel ‘mix’ contains high vanadium carbides. It comes from a process of melting the constituent metals that make up the steel and then mixing them together. Next, they are atomised to make a powder consisting of minutely small particles.
The particles are screened to ensure uniformity and then under pressure they are heated to form the tool steel billet.
This method produces a tool steel that is extremely uniform with a very fine grained structure.
What does this mean to the woodworker?
Put simply, this tool steel has higher impact resistance than O1 & A2 tool steel. The body is stressed relieved, locally cast, ductile iron and is precision surface ground flat giving accurate 90 degree sides.

Flatness - We metrology measure our tools for flatness. This tool is measured in 400 points across the sole. Average variance is .00047" or 12 microns (1000 microns in a single millimetre). The tool's sole is dead flat.

Squareness - The tool is metrology measured on both sides with an average variance of .00017" or 5 microns. The tool's sides are dead square to the sole.

It weighs a hefty 2.6 kgs (5.7 lbs), around the same as a 'modern' No.5 bevel down standard 'Stanley Bedrock copy' bench plane. It is the traditional length 357mm, and 64mm wide.
The exceptional PM-10V tool steel blade is the thickest around for a No 62 (4.85mm), 50mm (2 inch) wide, 25° bevel with a Howard Adjuster as standard. It sits on a precision machined 12 degree bed.
The cap iron is hand cast manganese bronze. We manufactured the thumbscrews and fittings from solid brass.
It has a precision machined adjustable mouth allowing the finest gossamer shaving or a thicker shaving for quick stock removal.

Handles are offered in Fiddleback Red Gum & Huon Pine. The Fiddleback Red Gum comes from a massive tree in the north of South Australia. The timber from the tree is riddled with fiddleback but the lengths are short, just right for plane handles. Our Huon Pine choice (it is not a pine btw) is simply our homage to this famous timber indigenous to Australia, its Tasmanian history is incredible. Overtime the timber will turn a deep golden honey colour.
The rear tote handle has enough height to ensure all four fingers sit comfortably. The handle and knob suits both small and large hands due to calculated thicknesses..

The weight is down low in the body, lowering the centre of gravity and increasing the heft and planing power of the tool. The side walls have more area to assist shooting board stability.

A Hot Dog handle makes shooting board applications more comfortable.

Craftsmen, carpenters & woodworkers determined the basic design elements of this tool mostly prior to the time Stanley manufactured the plane from 1905 - 1942. Today it is arguably the most versatile and effective hand plane available. Changing blade cutting angles or blade types makes it a smoother, a jointer for shorter workpieces, a shooting board plane, a tool for hogging out rough sawn timber, a scraper and more.

https://henryeckert.com.au/customer-letter-replying-to-our-no-62-post-1-3-2023/
This PM-10V scraper plane blade is made to suit the Henry Eckert Low Angle Jack Plane. They are made from EN9 spring steel. As with traditional drawbore pins, the shape is slightly offset (unlike others), for easy removal. 1/2" x 9". Handles are Beech in the Carver pattern. These drawbore pins are very well made, tough and well designed.

Below is a quote from Joel @ Tools For Working Wood, talking about drawbore use, what makes a proper drawbore pin & Ray Iles.
The best way to put together a mortise and tenon is by drawboring them. What this means is that when you drill the holes for a dowel to pin the joint together you offset the hole in the tenon towards the shoulder so that the pin has to bend a little to get the joint together and put a little tension in the joint. Any shrinkage in the stile would be taken up by the tension and the joint is incredibly strong.

The problem is test fitting it. You can of course just drive dowels into the joint but that means driving them out and replacing them every time you test fit. This is a pain and also wears the joint. The traditional solution is using drawbore pins. Drawbore pins not only let you assemble the joint but they have an eccentricity that allows you to tighten up the joint without banging down. It's a technique that is still used today to align steel beams for assembly.

A few years ago I mentioned to Ray Iles that there were no proper drawbore pins being made on the market and certainly none with the proper eccentricity. He mentioned that he would get antiques in and they would sell very quickly. He took a long look at a bunch and saw the eccentricity that I mentioned and of course he said "that explains why you don't see hammer marks on them." Most of the old ones were used by doormakers and large rigging makers but and they work for cabinetmaking (it's what I have) but smaller sizes can be much easier to handle.

The way you use them is just put them in a drawbore hole and wiggle them down. You will notice that on half a turn they seem to tighten up the joint, and on the other half they loosen. Just by turning and wiggling the pin you can get the joint to mechanically tighten up with a lot of pressure. A pin without the offset, is sometimes used but you don't get the pressure on the joint.
Our plane socks are knitted in the US by a manufacturer that specialises in protective products for firearms, tools, sporting goods. Our blades are machined, carefully heat treated to the manufacturing mill’s specifications by our metallurgist (Andrew), surface ground flat and primary bevels prepared for fine honing in Adelaide.Depending on the size, our after market blades are 10% to 30% thicker than the originals giving you a more rigid blade resisting chatter and more weight (heft) in the right spot lowering the centre of gravity.

Technical Powdered Metallurgy Information Page here.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0994/6051/4071/files/12bfd1db-IMG_0400-1024x1024-600x600-1.jpg?v=1774903734
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0994/6051/4071/collections/IMG_6646-scaled-1-square-6fe1fd44afc0bdae54dc827e96510dcc-8clo02hdiy1n.jpg?v=1775123227
